Hope you could help me spread the word about a Dolly Parton art show I am curating here in Hollywood .
We're in the beginning stages, but the show will open Sept. 12, 2008 at the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery on Hollywood Boulevard .
I am looking for any and all art inspired by Dolly!
I am also looking for photos of Dolly and her fans! We'd love as many photos as possible of Dolly with her fans!
Any help in spreading the word about the show would be greatly appreciated. The show is a complete celebration of all things Dolly and opens right about the same time the 9 to 5 musical opens here in Los Angeles .
Please contact me with any questions.
Images of art to be considered for the show should be emailed to iheartdollyparton@yahoo.com.
Photos of Dolly with her fans should be emailed to iheartdollyparton@yahoo.com.
Again, please contact me with any and all questions.
Thought you all would like to know about an imaginative new play called "Journey to Dollywood." The presence of a young stranger in the local diner of a sleepy southern town sets off a chain of events that leads Jolene, a waitress who reveres Dolly Parton, on a journey of self-discovery. Dolly Parton liked the script so much that she recorded a voiceover for the play and hopes to attend a performance this fall. In June, playwright Jessie McCormack, who also plays Jolene, visited Parton at her recording studio in Nashville, Tennessee. "It's a play about courage," explains McCormack. "Dolly Parton is a symbol of hope. She's the 'American Dream' personified, a person who struggled against all odds to get where she is today. In the play, Jolene's desire to travel to Dollywood is a metaphor for taking a leap of faith and going for what you want in life." The cast also includes Melissa Greenspan as Cici, Jolene's ditzy co-worker; Erik Van Wyck as Manny, their idiosyncratic, Brooklyn born-and-bred boss; and Henry Gummer as Josh, the unassuming outsider who stumbles into this strange, funny world. The Matrix Theatre is located at 7657 Melrose Ave, in Los Angeles, California. Performances of "Journey to Dollywood" take place Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, September 15 through October 27. There will be one matinee on Sunday, September 16 at 3 pm. There are two preview performances on Thursday, September 13 and Friday, September 14 at 8 pm. Tickets are $20.00 and $15.00 for previews. For reservations and information, call (323) 960-4418 or go to www.plays411.com/dollywood.
